We don’t just teach our students how to be a stylist or barber—we teach them how to be a business owner. Our job isn’t done when students pass an exam or get a diploma—our job is done when our students have met or exceeded every goal they have set for themselves, while pursuing their passion along the way.

60 Years of Developing Artists

Asher Institute is a descendant of the Virginia School of Hair Design that was founded in 1958. For over 60 years, we have seen generations of stylists walk through our doors and make their dreams come true. Our storied history has given us a wealth of knowledge to pull from as we grow. Now with our new name, new building and new programs, we are able to offer a diverse, vibrant and creative learning environment.

Our building is located at the border of Hampton and Newport News. Our state-of-the-art building is brand new and has the feel of a modern, upscale salon. From our barbering floor with chocolate leather seats and industrial ceilings to our salon floor with sleek finishes, clean lines and vibrant orange accents throughout, our facility was built with the students of today in mind.
